The European Cellulose Insulation Association, ECIA, has held its third Annual General Meeting in the historical city of Vienna, Austria, in September 27-30, 2016.
The event was attended by a large cross section of European Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers. The main focus was on dynamic constructions with cellulose insulation, giving opportunity for better ‘real life performance’ of timber frame buildings. Results of large scale testing was presented, which confirmed the low CO2 emissions of cellulose insulation during manufacture, the life time of the building and end of life. This is mainly due to the embodied carbon in cellulose (manufactured from recycled newspapers, which are taken away from the land fill process and the fact that paper is made from renewable sources of wood, which contains lots of stored carbon).
During the meeting was discussed a wide range of technical topics and also ideas for general promotion of cellulose insulation benefits. These include high specific heat capacity, hence significantly reducing the potential for overheating in the summer, the fact that cellulose gives a ‘full-fill’ in between timbers and hence reduces the potential for closed loop heat loss and also that cellulose is ‘moisture vapour diffusion open’ and hence protects buildings against any damage from interstitial moisture damage.
Part of the program also involved a tour around the CPH Beteiligungs GmbH & Co KG, cellulose insulation production facility in Hartberg, Austria.
Mr. Wolfgang Lackner, Director CPH, who hosted this year’s event, was very pleased to welcome the delegates to this year’s ECIA Annual Meeting in Harterg and was also extremely satisfied with the outcome. Speaking at the conference, Mr Lackner stated, ‘I’m extremely pleased that ECIA is continuing to prosper as the ecological material of choice for the European construction industry and that ECIA is taking steps to further demonstrate this via further research studies’.
The European Cellulose Insulation Association (ECIA) has held its second Annual General Meeting in the beautiful city of Prague.
The event was attended by a large cross section of European Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers, many members from the USA and Canadian cellulose insulation industry and also several associated members (equipment and raw material suppliers).
The aim of the meeting was to discuss a wide range of technical topics and also to discuss ideas as to how to further promote the excellent environmental and performance benefits of cellulose insulation. Part of the programme also involved a tour around the CIUR a.s., cellulose insulation production facility in Brandys Nad Labem, near Prague.
During the meeting there was a healthy exchange of ideas and experience between the EU and the North American delegates. It was also decided at the meeting to elect an additional board member, Mr Gerhard Huber. The meeting concluded with an extensive and detailed plan aimed at driving the market forward for cellulose.
Speaking from Prague, Mr Pasi Typpö, Chairman of the ECIA board stated at the end of the conference “I am extremely pleased with the outcome of the meeting and in particular the sharing of ideas between the EU and North American delegation. The conference has given our industry a great platform for moving the cellulose industry forward. Also, the appointment of a new additional director, Mr Huber, to the ECIA board demonstrates that our industry association is committed to expanding its activity in promoting our excellent range of cellulose fibre insulation products.”
Additionally, Mr Michal Urbanek, Managing Director CIUR a.s., who hosted this year’s event stated “I was very pleased to welcome the delegates to this year’s ECIA Annual Meeting in Prague and was also extremely satisfied with the outcome. It is very reassuring to know that our industry has a clear way forward and has a very high calibre of employees, management and associates.”
The annual meeting 2015 will take place at Prague, Czech Republic on 1st and 2nd of October 2015.
